Combining data and analysis from Lyra’s user survey research and market forecasts, Steve Hoffenberg will explore the present and future state of cameraphone usage, as well as predict how it will impact the market for digital cameras. Mr. Hoffenberg is responsible for Lyra’s market research in consumer digital imaging products and services, and is the principal analyst for the Consumer Imaging Intelligence advisory service. He has more than a decade of experience in the digital imaging industry, including product management at Leaf Systems (now a division of Eastman Kodak), one of the pioneering companies of the digital camera industry in the early 1990’s. He initially joined Lyra in 1996 as founding director of the Digital Photography Advisory Service, and later led the company’s market research in digital television before returning to head the new Consumer Imaging Intelligence service. Mr. Hoffenberg holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Vermont and a master’s degree with a concentration in electronic publishing from the Rochester Institute of Technology.” 09:30 Worldwide Cameraphone Development Mikko Pikama, Director, Multimedia Experiences, Nokia Mikko Pilkama holds the position of Director, Multimedia Experiences. In this position he is globally responsible for managing and developing all imaging-related Nokia N series solutions, services and applications. He has been in his current position since early 2006. Mikko rejoined Nokia in 1996 after having worked for Nokia earlier in the 1990s. He has held several positions in Finance & Business Control, Operations, Logistics and Sourcing and lately in Strategy and Business Development. From 2002 to 2005 Mikko held the position of Director, Business Strategy and Control. In this position he was globally responsible for the Imaging Business Unit’s Strategies, Business Development, Market & Business Intelligence and Financial and Risk Management. Mikko has experience from five different countries while working in Nokia. Perfectly Clear is currently installed in over 20,000 kiosks, several thousand minilabs, several million copies of software, and numerous online sites in over 17 different countries. 10:30 Break 11:00 Online Photo Services: An Evolving Industry Ben Nelson, VP, HP Imaging & Printing Group This presentation will describe how online photo services, such as Snapfish and others, continue to evolve to drive greater photo sharing and printing - delivering value-added photo products and services to create a compelling experience for consumers. Ben Nelson is vice president of Snapfish, HP’s online photo services business. Ben has spent his career in start-up environments. Prior to working with Snapfish and now HP, he was president and CEO of Community Ventures, a network of locally branded portals for America’s communities. Prior to Community Ventures, Ben helped start the Mergers & Acquisition practice at Dean & Co, a first-tier strategy consulting firm, where he focused on transactions in the competitive telecommunications services industry. Ben has also been instrumental in launching several ventures within both large and growing companies. Among his previous projects were the launches of Disney Regional Entertainment for the Walt Disney Company in Asia, SmithKline Beecham’s first foray into the internet, and the growth plan for CDNow in the first months after its founding. Ben holds a B.S. in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with honours. 11:30 Kiosk Usage Statistics Steve Giordano, Sr. Chairman/CEO, Lucidiom Inc. Through its totally interconnected APM network of kiosks, Lucidiom is able to gather in a central location the statistics of all its kiosks operating in North America and Europe. For Lucidiom customers, numerous management reports can be automatically created to help guide marketing and promotional efforts and all kiosks, or even a single one, can be changed remotely. Steve will share the many usage statistics that the company has gathered. Steve has spent the last 10 years in the photofinishing industry. Prior to Lucidiom, he was co-founder, CEO and president of Floppy Shots and Digital Now Inc., which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. He was also co-founder, CEO and president of two earlier companies, Competitive Solutions Inc. and Commix SP Inc., both of which developed multimedia and digital imaging technologies for commercial and vertical industry segments. Steve spent 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1989 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Too many? They forget to print, and ordering is postponed to the future - “I might print later”. The Photo Book is the ideal “print all” solution. Getting people to order prints and photo books requires creating entertainment with the selection process and fun with software tools. This presentation shows how a good solution could look. Mr. Schmidt-Sacht has a degree in engineering. He spent four years in the automobile industry and twelve years with Unilever with six years as head of industrial engineering in packaging and printing. He joined CeWe Color in 1983 as Managing Director and became a Member of the Board in 1997. Today, he is Chief Technical Officer of the company for research and development and new technologies. Mr. Schmidt-Sacht and his team developed several new products and services for the Photo Industry. In 2004 he received the “Distinguished Service Award” from PMA International, USA. 14:30 Creating photobooks through kiosks Raffaella Manca, VP Marketing & Strategies, Oblò Multimedia Make it simple and fun, is the secret behind the success of creating photobooks through kiosks. People are enjoying ordering their books at kiosk, taking advantage of the convenience of a one-hour service. The kiosk can be the best way to up-sell and turn a simple print order into a real value-added service made up of photobook and multimedia. After 10 years of marketing in the photofinishing industry, in 2001 Raffaella Manca founded Oblò Multimedia with two other Gretag Imaging managers. She brings her experience in the kiosks and new added-value services development, with customers in the international markets. 15:00 Break 15:30 Monetizing Digital Exposures Brad Kruchten, VP, Eastman Kodak This presentation will cover the growing problem/opportunity of unprinted digital exposures. How many are there? Who isn’t printing? Why they aren’t printing? And most importantly what we need to do as an industry to get people to utilize their digital exposures for prints, photo books, CD’s/DVD’s, or gifts. A graduate of Michigan State and Rochester Institute of Technology, Mr. Kruchten has been with Kodak for 24 years in Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing positions. He was COO of Kodak’s Document Imaging Business, CEO of Encad, a Kodak subsidiary, President of Qualex and is currently General Manager of Film and Photo Services. In this capacity he has Worldwide responsibility for consumer and professional film, one time use cameras, batteries, Event Imaging, Qualex, and Kodak’s Kiosk business. 16:00 Order Fulfilment of Mobile Images Kai Moenig, Head, Digital Imaging Product Management, Fujicolor Central Europe Photofinishing Recognizing that its customers throughout Central Europe must be provided with a wide range of digital products and that a siginificant growth potential will come from mobile imaging Fujicolor has been developing an infrastructure to offer new products and services related to images captured on cameraphones and digital still cameras. Taking the perspective of the consumers and their demands for hassle-free use of imaging devices the existing ways of ordering digital images will be discussed as well as their feasibility in order to meet the particular requirements of ordering mobile images. Kai Moenig, as head of Digital Image Product Management at Fujicolor Central Europe Photofinishing, leads the company’s development and implementation of digital support services and products as well as coordinates the involved departments within the company. He works closely with the parent company Fuji Photo Film (Europe), other Fujicolor as well as affiliated companies throughout Europe. 16:30 Panel discussion - A Call to Simplify Capture/Print Workflow There are no easy ways to capture and print. Steps can, however, be taken to produce effective designs along with a user interface that provide simplified success. Intelligent workflow can remove these obstacles. Imaging to print should be as easy as making a phone call. Moderator Elmo Sapwater is a digital imaging innovator with over 25 years of technical photography and publishing experience as Executive Editor of Photo Electronic Imaging (PEI) and Professional Photographer magazines, as well as a contributing columnist and writer to a variety of international publications, and Publisher of Piranha Daily Imaging News at www.piranhadailynews.com. In the ‘80s and ‘90s Mr Sapwater created the world’s first all-electronic publication and was also the first to combine still video images within a newspaper environment. Sapwater’s other achievements include designing and developing an electronic still photography platform for criminal investigations and multimedia kiosks in Europe. Panelists Eran Steinberg is the CEO of FotoNation Inc., the leader in digital photography connectivity software since 1997. Prior to FotoNation, Eran was chief scientist and vice president of software at Epix Imaging Systems in charge of the software development for the first programmable digital camera, CTO of Zing Networks Inc., and was color scientist and manager of the Core Technology group at Electronics for Imaging (EFI). Prior to that, Eran was teaching and working as a professional photographer. Eran is currently the project leader of the ISO Committee for Command Language for Cameras (ISO-15740/Picture Transfer Protocol). John Henshall is the UK’s longest established digital imaging evangelist. Mr Henshall has an unmatched breadth of experience, both technical and creative, in all branches of photography, still and moving image; silver halide and digital. He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS), the British Institute of Professional Photography (FBIPP), of which he was President 1991-1992, and a Fellow of the British Professional Photographers Associates (FBPPA). Mike Willis is Managing Director of Pivotal Resources Limited, a digital printing consultancy based in Cambridge, England. He has been involved with technology development and product planning for digital products for nearly 30 years, including high-speed electrophotography, ink jet applications from desk-top products to industrial and manufacturing applications, and thermal and thermal transfer systems. These days a large part of his time is spent tracking ink jet patents and technology forecasting. Don Franz founded Photofinishing News 23 years ago to produce an industry newsletter. Today the company produces four regular publications in Chinese, English and Spanish and provides worldwide market research about the photo-imaging industry, including forecasts to 2012.
